The Orphan Boy Mess is a reenacting unit that portrays confederate soldiers that fought in the Army of Tennessee, basically those from the Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia areas. For the most part we like doing a mid war representation, one which would have seen action during the time of Chickamauga and Chattanooga, but also later engagements like Franklin and Nashville. Because of this we are often on campaign, meaning we carry everything on our backs, making it unlikely that we would have had access to large tents (though one or two is often set up in case we get hit by a nasty thunderstorm, which seems to have happened at every event in 2009, because, lets face it, we all have to go home healthy on Sunday and be back at work on Monday). Now, while we would prefer that our unit members depict mid war western confederate soldiers we do not discriminate against those that have a different impression, especially since we are occasionally required to represent a different area and time of the war. However, if you are new to reenacting and haven’t bought anything yet, going with mid war Army of Tennessee stuff would be ideal. Also take a look at our pictures – most do a nice job of showing who we are and what we do at these events.
